Master Books is relatively the new kid on the block when it comes to popular homeschool curriculum. While they have been around for a long time as a publisher of Christian books, mainly apologetics, they exploded onto the homeschool scene not that long ago. Even as a second generation homeschooler, I didn’t learn about Master Books until several years into homeschooling my own kids.

Fast forward to now, and Master Books is one of the most popular and talked about providers of homeschool curriculum. So, why is Master Books so popular? This is a question that I recently came across and it started me down the rabbit hole of trying to figure out the answer. After some long, hard minutes of thought, I quickly came to this conclusion. The Master Books magic is in their method.

Master Books approaches homeschooling like no other publisher in the market. Their unique approach makes them appealing to homeschoolers like me, who don’t quite fit into a one-size-fits-all homeschool box.

In this post you will learn all about he Master Books approach to homeschooling. We’ll explore why this comprehensive, affordable Christian curriculum has quickly become one of the most popular homeschool programs available.

The Master Books Approach to Homeschooling

Something that surprised me as I started homeschooling my own kids, is that within the homeschool world there are like these little clubs. While some join the classical club, others are all in with Charlotte Mason, and some join the traditional homeschool club. I don’t really fit into any of these methods, as I want to pull the best from each style and simply give my kids a great learning experience.

Master Books has developed their own approach to homeschooling that, as I mentioned earlier, doesn’t fit into one tidy little homeschool box. They combine the short lessons of Charlotte Mason with the convenience of a school-in-a-box approach of a traditional homeschool curriculum. There are glimpses of other methods sprinkled into the curriculum, but Master Books really developed their own style.

While their eclectic homeschool approach may be one of the most appealing things about Master Books homeschool curriculum, this isn’t the only reason why they are so popular.

Comprehensive Homeschool Curriculum

There are seasons of homeschooling where I like to pull from different resources and piece together my own curriculum plan, and other times where life is busy and I just want to be able to click an order button and have a reliable curriculum delivered to me. With Master Books I can do either.

Master Books has comprehensive curriculum packages designed to give our kids a complete education for every grade level. While the packages are convenient, there is still flexibility and options within each grade level. For example, if you don’t want to do American History in fourth grade, you can easily replace it with something like U.S. Geography and Social Studies (our favorite). The ability to customize while still having a comprehensive curriculum plan available is one of the reasons so many find this curriculum appealing.

Engaging Curriculum for Kids

While some people get nervous about the gentle approach of this curriculum for homeschool, this gentleness translates to peaceful homeschooling. I know from experience that kids actually like this educational approach. My kids have done everything from Language Lessons for a Living Education to Introduction to Forensics, and have not only learned from these subjects, but actually enjoyed completing the work.

Homeschool work doesn’t have to be difficult or rigorous for kids to learn. I feel like sometimes as homeschoolers we think we need to produce little genius children that are ready for college by age twelve. We forget that providing developmentally appropriate, and even gentle homeschool materials often results in more learning. Many families have escaped this homeschool trap for the gentleness of Masterbooks and it transformed their homeschool experience.

Easy to Use, Open and Go Homeschool Curriculum

Another reason for the popularity of Master Books is that it is super easy to use, so homeschool parents with multiple kids find it really accessible. The schedules and answer keys that are built into every subject require no planning. It is truly open and go, and one of the easiest curriculums I have ever used in my homeschool.

While there is no organization required, I like to customize how I organize the schedule and answer keys. Check out the video below to see how I organize my Master Books schedules and answer keys.

Affordable Christian Curriculum

One of the main reasons for the popularity of this program is the affordability. While there are some exceptions, most homeschool families sacrifice an extra income in order to have one parent available to do the homeschooling. It is a worthy sacrifice, but a sacrifice nonetheless. When you add in multiple kids, going with a bright and shiny boxed curriculum can easily become out of reach for our limited resources.

Master Books is not only affordable, but it is quality. The books are colorful (and shiny), and you get everything you need to homeschool for a year. I have never had to purchase a bunch of extra supplies while using this curriculum, except for a few hands on science items. But even those are mostly everyday household items. The curriculum is accessible to a broad range of families because of its affordability.

Bible Based Homeschool Curriculum

While searching for the best biblical homeschool curriculum, many homeschool families land on Master Books. Biblical perspective and worldview are integrated into every subject. When using Master Books, I never feel like I need to get a separate Bible curriculum, although it is available if I want it, because of how well it is integrated across all subjects. Yes, even math is taught from a Biblical perspective. I think it is so valuable for young kids to see how the Bible is part of all aspects of life, even math and language lessons.

Creation Based Science

Masterbooks is the most appealing curriculum for families looking for creation-based curriculum. This perspective is probably what they are most well-known for. While it sometimes makes Master Books the subject of controversy in homeschool groups, the fact that people are even discussing this is part of what drives the ever growing popularity.

As Christian homeschoolers, we have the unique opportunity to help our kids for their own worldview. Biblical curriculum for homeschool gives us an easy to use tool for presenting a biblical worldview to our kids.

Masterbooks Christian Curriculum for Homeschool

Sometimes we just need to bust out of doing things the way they’ve always been done and start thinking outside of the little homeschool style boxes. We’re homeschoolers, which means we are different by default. Embracing new homeschool methods and ideas shouldn’t be scary or even controversial. Homeschooling shouldn’t require adherence to any one style or methodology.

If you are finding your place amongst the homeschool rebels that embrace eclectic homeschooling, you’re in good company at My Homeschool with a View. And Master Books has created a comprehensive, easy to use, Biblical homeschool curriculum for our crowd.
