Have you ever seen the Thirty Days of Thankfulness social media challenges? Basically, you post what you are thankful for on your social media pages everyday for the month of November. I love the idea of this challenge. I am not organized enough to participate, but the idea of taking the time everyday to think about what you are thankful for appeals to me.
There are so many reasons to take the time to be thankful. I think that the harder and more chaotic life is, the more important thankfulness is. When it is tempting to be discouraged or distracted by what is going on around us, thankfulness turns our focus upward to the giver of every good and perfect gift. While so many are going through some really hard things this year, there are still so many things to be thankful for.
Instead of thirty days of thankfulness, I want to challenge you all to a week of thankfulness. Pick seven days this month to be intentional about being thankful. You don’t even need to post it on social media. Make a list and post it on your fridge, write it on your bathroom mirror, post it on a sticky note on your car dash board. It doesn’t matter where you post it, as long as it is somewhere that you will see it often. You don’t have to over think anything for this challenge. Post the big important things as well as the mundane. There are no rules to this challenge. It is just a reminder for us to take some time to remember to be thankful.
My Seven Days of Thankfulness
Day 1
I’m thankful for Josh, Carter, and Peyton. They are my people and I can’t imagine doing life without these three.
Day 2
Good, strong coffee. And the husband that gets up in the morning to make the coffee for me.
Day 3
Travel. Today Carter was talking about how much he misses Ireland. We loved being able to spend two months there, and we are looking forward to the day that we can have more adventures like it.
Day 4
Freedom and those willing to fight for it.
Day 5
Health. So many are struggling with this one right now and I don’t ever want to take it for granted.
Day 6
Family that lives close by. I lived away from my family for many, many years, and then most of them moved close to me. I love that the boys have grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins around as this is something I didn’t really have as a kid.
Day 7
I’m thankful for my blog readers. When I launched over the summer, I had no idea what I was doing or if anybody would even want to read what I had to say. The response I have had has been amazing and I am truly thankful for each one of you that take the time to read my posts.
Take the Challenge
Now it’s your turn to take the Seven Days of Thankfulness challenge! I would love to read some of the things you are thankful for. Feel free to kick off your list by posting in the comments!
Spending 7 days is a great way to start working on finding things to be thankful for every day.
A few years ago I wrote down one thing each day I was thankful – I need to do that for 2021.
