When most of us start shopping for a new homeschool year, we think of the major items like curriculum and books. As homeschool parents, we don’t get a tidy little supply list handed to us with every little item and brand we need to buy. When we are shopping for our homeschool supplies, it can be easy to overlook the little things, like pencils and pens. Here is a roundup of some of our favorite pencils and pens we use in our homeschool.

The Big Box of Pencils

This Box of Pencils made it onto My Top 5 Homeschool Supplies list. It might not seem like a big deal, but having good pencils ready and available makes the day go so much smoother. There is nothing more frustrating in our homeschool day than when I am trying to juggle two kids’ assignments and the child I’m trying to help can’t find something as simple as a pencil. I love having the big box on hand that I can just reach into and hand one to my child. They can complete their assignment without leaving me waiting for them, and I can send them on a pencil hunt after work is complete.

Sharpies

Peyton is very artistic and loves to add color to just about everything. Sharpies are his favorite tool to use in school (and life). I’m pretty sure we have every color ever made, but we always run out of black. Those seem to get used the most. I highly recommend getting the big pack of colorful sharpies for your budding little artists, but get an extra pack of black so you have them when you need them.

Gel Pens

I love the smoothness of writing with gel pens. I bought a giant pack from Costco a couple years ago, and we all love them. It looks like they are no longer available, but these are similar. The boys like writing with these as well. If your kids tend to be a bit writing-phobic like mine, try erasable gel pens. They are a little more comfortable to write with than pencils or regular pens, and the eraser is a must for schoolwork. Make sure to keep a stash for yourself so you have them when you need them.

Expo Markers

I laminate just about anything I can in our homeschool. This is not an exaggeration! Since we use a lot of laminated work pages, we go through several packs of fine tip Expo Markers throughout the year. We use both theDry Erase  and Wet Erase markers, depending on what we are doing.

Erasable Colored Pencils

Colored pencils are just a must have homeschool supply, but erasable colored pencils are even better. If you have a perfectionist child like I do, you know the need to have pencils that will erase cleanly, leaving a neat unmarked page behind. We usually use Crayola Erasable Colored Pencils, but I found a great deal on Prismacolor Eraseable Pencils last Christmas and we love them. My youngest loves the regular Prismacolor Pencils for his hobby drawing, but for school I prefer they use the erasable ones.

I hope you enjoy checking out My Top 5 Favorite Pencils and Pens. Having the right supplies can make the homeschool day go much smoother.
