Finding excellent homeschool resources in a world of so many choices can be an all-consuming task. That’s why I’m here, to make this task easier for you. Take math for example. Finding an easy to teach math curriculum that balances engaging instruction, but also gives our kids a deep understanding of math concepts may seem like a tall order. This is why I am happy to tell you about Online Self-Paced Geometry from Mr. D Math.
Self-paced Geometry from Mr. D Math stands out amongst other math programs for the spirit of excellence it brings to math instruction. This online class provides my son with a comprehensive and effective approach to learning geometry. It simplifies homeschool instruction and provides us with a subject I don’t have to teach. Who doesn’t love top-notch instruction that also simplifies homeschooling?
Alright, let’s take a break from the high-praise I have for Online Classes from Mr. D Math. I want to take you through some key features that make Mr. D Math Geometry an excellent addition to your homeschool (and mine too).
What You Get with Online Classes from Mr. D Math
Let’s start with the basics and look at what is provided with the Self-Paced Geometry.
- Professional Video Instruction
- Already Done For You Assignments
- Graded Quizzes
- Worksheets AND Solutions (we all know how helpful it is to actually have the solutions)
- Suggested Pacing to Finish in One Year
- Extra Honors Lessons
- Fun Challenges with the Chance to Win Prizes
In-Depth Homeschool Math Instruction
Geometry with Mr. D Math includes very thorough video instruction. These are not quick lessons that barely explain a concept. He takes the time to go into detail and provides depth in order to reach understanding of math concepts.
One of the instructional elements that we really appreciate is that Mr. D encourages students to work on the course assignments while watching the videos. This is so helpful for reinforcing concepts. Watching a whole lesson and then expecting a student to remember what was taught at the beginning is not always practical. By encouraging students to complete coursework during the instructional portion, concepts become solidified. And it also saves time which my homeschooler is all about.
Live Online Classes for Homeschool
Mr. D Math offers a variety of classes and instructional formats. If you prefer real-time instruction, then you will love the Live Online Classes.
I personally prefer the flexibility of self-paced classes for my kids. I like working within my own schedule and routines to complete classes.
Contrary to what the name implies, Mr. D Math offers more than just math classes. A few years ago, my son enjoyed learning to become a runner with Training Like an Olympic Runner.
In addition to math and PE, Mr. D Math offers classes in:
- American Sign Language
- Business and Entrepreneurship
- Economics
- Language Arts
- Music and Dance
- Study Skills
- Technology
High School Geometry for Homeschool
While I reviewed Mr. D Math for high school geometry, classes are available for a wide-range of ages. My son was in middle school when he tried his first Mr. D Math course, and now is doing high school geometry.
Professional Teaching Experience from Dennis DiNoia
Last summer I read the book Teach by Dennis DiNoia and I developed a great appreciation for Mr. D’s education philosophy and teaching style. His experience is in classroom education, but he takes a different approach to teaching than most classroom teachers. In other words, he thinks like a homeschooler with the experience of a professional educator.
The focal point of Mr. D Math Geometry, and all of the classes offered, are the engaging video lessons. Mr. D is a passionate teacher and it shows in the thoughtful lessons and logical progression of the program. Expertly structured lessons allow students to build from easier concepts to more advanced math instruction.
Incorporating Online Classes into My Homeschool
We enjoy online classes so much at My Homeschool with a View. I even sit with my student for the lesson and do the coursework right alongside him. This is a practice I have done for years and highly recommend. Since planning and instruction are taken care of, there is time to learn something new and feed your own mind too. My son loves it that I am in the trenches with him and I actually enjoy the lessons. Mr. D is an excellent and engaging educator.
While the class we are doing is a self-paced class, there is a suggested schedule in order to finish the curriculum in 34 weeks. As someone who really doesn’t enjoy homeschool planning, I appreciate the ease with which I can incorporate Mr. D Math into my homeschool.
Charter School Friendly Curriculum
I know many homeschoolers rely on state funded programs to help pay for homeschooling. Mr. D Math has partnerships with different charter school programs, and since the curriculum is not faith based, it should be eligible for state funded reimbursement type programs. Of course, check with your participating program provider to see if it is available.
Finding Balance with Online Curriculum
Most homeschool families I know are very considerate of how much time their children spend on screens. I know some families are concerned about being on screens even for school work.
I mitigate these concerns with balance. By prioritizing subjects I don’t enjoy teaching and doing those online, there is still plenty of time to put pencil to paper and hold real books in our hands. Math definitely falls into the category of I don’t want to teach. I am personally very grateful for educators like Mr. D that put their expertise into an easy to use online format.
Mr. D Math Geometry also includes on-paper coursework. So even though the instruction is based online, it is balanced with old-school learning.
My View of Mr. D Math Self-Paced Geometry
I’m sure you can probably tell that I greatly appreciate the resource that is Mr. D Math. There really isn’t a down-side to using the Self-Paced Geometry program. As we look to finish homeschooling high school, I enjoy the confidence that comes from utilizing excellent self-paced online courses. It brings peace to our homeschool and to my planning, and that in itself makes Mr. D Math deserving of a high recommendation.
