I am a runner and have been for many years. Recently my thirteen year old, Carter, started asking me about running long distances, how to build endurance, and how he could get into running. I really didn’t have great answers for him, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to try out the live online classes from Mr. D Math Training Like an Olympic Runner.

I didn’t find my fitness until I was in my twenties, and I have no idea how to safely train a teenager to become a runner. My teenager isn’t super athletic and my first priority is to prevent injury, so I am extremely grateful to have a program taught by a professional coach to guide us through each step of the way. Whether you have been running for years, or the only time you run is an errand in your car, you should check out Mr. D Math Training Like an Olympic Runner live online classes for your homeschool.

What is Mr. D Math Training Like an Olympic Runner Live Online Classes

Mr. D Math Training Like an Olympic Runner is a 32 week, self-paced class taught by Jason Bean, a level 5 USATF certified coach. The class is broken up into four units that contain eight lessons each. Lessons cover everything from warm-up to recovery. If you are reading this and have no idea what those terms mean, that’s okay! You will be in the expert hands of a professional coach who will guide you through it all. This is a great opportunity to learn from a pro. You will learn the science behind each movement, how to hold proper form, and different types of training and pacing.

How to Use this Program

The program lessons are meant to be watched at the beginning of the week. You will learn a new skill or fitness move to work on. You will

then need to practice throughout the week, at least three times, but preferably more for best results. The following week you will repeat this pattern, but you will do the training from previous weeks and the new material during your practice days.

There are short lesson quizzes meant to be taken at the end of the week that are automatically graded. Students can take the quiz as many times as they need. I actually really appreciate this since my priority is for my son to learn, and getting the feedback on the answers he missed gives him the opportunity to go back and figure out what he may not have understood the first time.

Grade Level/Age

Training Like an Olympic Runner is designed for grades 6-12. I think this is an appropriate age range, just keep in mind that the younger side of that range will probably need a higher amount of parental involvement.

Things to Consider

This is not your mama’s training program. When they say that you will be Training Like an Olympic Runner they are not kidding. The intensity of this program may be a challenge for those kids who may be a little uncoordinated or less conditioned. The beauty of the self-paced programming means you can slow down where you need so they can really master each move.

I also highly recommend supervising your child until they get a feel for good form. Don’t worry if you don’t know what proper form looks like. Coach Bean demonstrates and explains each move in the video, so you can make sure that what your child is doing matches what is being demonstrated.

You will also need some equipment to complete this course. You probably already have the basic things like good running shoes and a water bottle. There are also a few things you may not think of like a yoga mat, medicine ball, and GPS device (smart watch). This is a serious training program and having the right equipment will help you get the most out of it!

What We Think of Mr. D Math Training Like an Olympic Runner Live Online Classes

My opinion of this program is basically summed up by this: Where has this been all my life? I have had to haphazardly learn the art of running over several years while pulling information from various sources. This has resulted in plenty of injuries along the way. Professional coaching is expensive, and Mr. D Math provides a great opportunity to learn from a professional coach, but with a much smaller price tag. I am happy to give my son the opportunity to get a good foundation right from the start. Hopefully he can avoid some of the pitfalls and injuries I’ve had to overcome along the way!
