I am late getting around to this week’s challenge post. The theme is Furniture Favorites. I had every intention of posting pics of my schoolroom so you could see how I use all of my homeschool room furniture favorites, but right now the space isn’t fit for photos. Isn’t it amazing how one can spend four hours cleaning and organizing a space, for it to stay that way for less than an hour? I know moms everywhere can relate. Anyway, here is a list of my furniture favorites. This is not meant to be a review of the products, but hopefully it can give you some good ideas for your school space.

Kallax Bookcase

This shelf was my first homeschool furniture purchase and we are still using it. Mine was actually from Costco and not Ikea brand.  As with all things from Costco, it was there one day and gone the next. This Ikea Kallax Bookcase is nearly the same as the one I have. I have moved my school “room” three times to different areas of my house, and this bookcase fit in all areas. It is very versatile. I use this just for our homeschool books. All of our other books go on a decorative bookshelf.

I organize their curriculum books on the shelf with magazine holders. This way the books don’t fall over on the shelf and the spines are still visible. My bookcase came with cloth cubes, and we use just two on the shelf for things like extra supplies and math manipulatives.

Lifetime Folding Table

These tables were the boys first school desks. Our first homeschool space was our small loft area, and these tables are very portable and easy to fold in order to get them out of the way. I also like that the table tops are easy to clean. This was essential when they were little as paint, markers and glue constantly missed their target. Actually, they still do. We no longer use these tables in our schoolroom, but the boys have them in their rooms. It gives them a nice little workspace for drawing and LEGO building.

IKEA MICKE Desks

I bought these Ikea desks used from another homeschooler a few years ago. Carter has the larger version of this desk that includes a computer cabinet. Carter does a lot of coding and computer techy type stuff, so he uses the extra space to spread out while he’s working on projects. We don’t always work in our school room or at the desks, but it’s nice to have them. I think the boys spend more time at their desks during their free time than they do during school time.

Office Chair

I don’t have a desk because I usually work between the boys’ desks. A chair with wheels is essential as I can wheel it from one kid to the next. My chair is super old, as in I had it before I had kids. It is similar to this Amazon Basics chair.

Whiteboards

I don’t know if these are really considered furniture, but I will include them here anyway. Since the boys can work pretty independently and don’t really need a lot of teaching anymore, we don’t use these as much. In earlier years these were essential. The boys each have one over their desk. Now they are mainly used for their schedules and checklists. I write their subjects up on the board, mainly so they don’t forget to do something. Occasionally I have to teach a concept from the board, but that is pretty rare now.

There you have it. These are my Homeschool Room Furniture Favorites. Actually, it’s the only furniture I have in my homeschool room. I would love to read what furniture pieces you use in your school space (even if it’s a dining room table). Feel free to drop me a comment below.
