Here is a quick look at what Peyton is using for 4th grade curriculum.

Math

Christian Light Education and Math Lessons for a Living Education
Peyton started out with CLE math, which is a great math program, but the lessons are looooong. He was getting so bogged down in the length of the lessons that he would lose focus and math started taking up to two hours sometimes. Yikes! I had a tough time giving up this program because the teaching was such a good fit for him, but I can’t be married to a certain curriculum.

At first glance I thought MLFLE was an inferior program, but there were things about it that I kept thinking would work well for Peyton. I finally decided to try it out and I can honestly say I was wrong. This program is deceptively simple and has been a great fit. I hope to do a more in depth review later, but for now I will just say don’t write this program off if you’re not impressed at first glance.

Language Arts

Language Lessons for a Living Education
We tried this one out last year and I felt meh about it. We started this year off with a different program but Peyton was asking to go back to LLFLE. Since there wasn’t anything about it that was a deal breaker, I went ahead and switched him back. I’ve liked it much more this year and feel like he is understanding and retaining what he is learning this time around. I chalk it up to maturity. Overall, I am happy with this one and he likes to do it so we’ll stick with it.

Social Studies/Geography

My Story 2
This book is meant for second grade, but Peyton is enjoying working through it. I feel like this is a bonus subject so I don’t worry about grade level too much. Our family likes to travel and Peyton has enjoyed seeing pictures and reading about different places around the world.

Science

Sonlight Science C
We’re really enjoying this one. Short lessons, some hands on activities (but not too many), and very simple/quick worksheet questions.

Reading

Sonlight Readers
We like using real books to teach reading and Peyton likes that there is no written work with this one.

History

Middle Ages, Renaissance, Reformation and Epistles (Simply Charlotte Mason)
We’re enjoying this one. Peyton especially loved reading about castles. He is a bit of an expert on the subject.

This is our basic subjects for 4th grade curriculum. We also do outside activities and enrichment through our weekly poetry tea time. One of our favorite resources for PTT is History of Classical Music from Beautiful Feet Books.
